I’ve always wanted to help others, but after my own challenges within the healthcare system, I decided to pursue a career in healthcare. This has allowed me to contribute to the health and well-being of my community and other communities abroad.
The most important thing for me when caring for patients is being an active listener and allowing patients to be a part of their healthcare decision-making. Often, patients complain of “not being heard.” I would like all my patients to have the opportunity to experience being heard. I’ve noticed that when my patients experience this, they are more engaged in their care, which allows for improved healthcare outcomes.
I prioritize my health by keeping up with my health screenings and appointments. I also try to practice mindfulness, meditate, get adequate sleep, exercise, and take time off as needed.
