Lab Services & Blood Testing

Trusted Blood Testing for our Patients

We are dedicated to improving comfort and convenience for lab services, as we understand that most people don’t enjoy having their blood drawn. We partner with third-party lab vendors to provide onsite lab access at several of our locations. Additionally, our flexible drop-in hours make it easier for our patients to access lab services at a time that suits your schedule best.

Prepare for a lab test

How to Prepare for a Lab Test

Preparation for your lab test can ensure more accurate results and a smooth testing experience. Follow these simple steps before your appointment:
Follow fasting instructions
Drink water, as staying hydrated makes blood draws easier
Ask your primary care doctor if you should take your meds before the test or not
Avoid alcohol and caffeine for at least 24 hours to prevent inaccurate results
Skip intense exercise and strenuous workouts
Bring the required documents: ID, insurance, and doctor’s orders.

Blood Tests That Typically Require Fasting

Blood glucose test

Lipid panel (Cholesterol Test)

Basic metabolic panel (BMP)

Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP)

Iron tests

Vitamin B12 test

Renal function panel

Check In With Your Primary Care Provider

Some blood tests require fasting (no food or drinks except water) for 8-12 hours before your appointment to ensure accurate results. This list shows the most common ones

If you’re unsure whether you need to fast, check with one of our primary care doctors or the lab before your test!

Our Lab Services

Please note that availability varies by location.

Routine Blood Tests

Comprehensive blood and urine testing for general health assessments, disease detection, and ongoing medical monitoring. Available at all locations for easy access.

COVID-19 Testing

CloseKnit offers multiple COVID-19 testing options: Antibody Testing (blood test) to detect past infections and assess immune response, PCR Testing (swab test) for highly accurate detection of active infections, and Antigen COVID Testing (rapid swab test) for quick confirmation of a current infection.

Like all medical tests, STI tests are strictly confidential. If you know you were exposed to HIV, Herpes, or viral Hepatitis, you should speak with one of our immediate care physicians to discuss early STD testing and preventive treatment options.

Blood Pressure Test

Measures systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels to evaluate heart health and detect hypertension or other cardiovascular risks. A key component of wellness screenings.

Urine Testing

A diagnostic tool used for routine health screenings and annual checkups, kidney function tests, pregnancy tests, and drug screenings, providing insights into overall health.

BMI (Body Mass Index)

A health assessment tool that calculates body fat percentage based on height and weight, helping to identify obesity risks and support wellness planning.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lab Testing

I have a provider outside of CloseKnit who ordered lab work for me. Can I get these tests done at CloseKnit?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate lab orders from providers outside of CloseKnit. We can only perform lab tests that are ordered by our own healthcare providers. However, we encourage you to book an appointment with one of our providers to discuss your lab work, as they can help you determine the next steps.

Do I need to have an appointment for lab tests?

No appointment is required. If your CloseKnit provider has ordered your test(s), you can visit a CloseKnit or Patient Service Location office during lab hours (or after your appointment).

Where do I go for a blood draw?

The majority of CloseKnit clinics offer on-site lab services without requiring an appointment. This allows you to have your blood drawn immediately following a visit (if during drop-in hours) or at your convenience throughout the week.

What if I want to go to an off-site lab for testing?

If you prefer, you can go to an off-site lab, such as LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics. Please contact them directly for their respective locations/hours.

How long does it take to get my lab test results?

Typically, it takes 3 – 7 business days for our team to obtain your lab results.

Delays in results may occur during periods of increased lab volume, such as during an epidemic, pandemic, similar circumstances, or over weekends and holidays.

How does insurance coverage work with lab tests?

Our lab vendors accept many insurance plans, but there may be some specific plans that we do not currently participate in. We recommend contacting our office to inquire about your insurance plan. Before undergoing your test(s), contact your insurance provider to see what labs your insurance plan covers.

What is a complete blood count (CBC)?

A Complete Blood Count (CBC) is a routine blood test that measures different components of your blood, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), platelets, hemoglobin, and hematocrit levels. It helps diagnose various health conditions, such as anemia, infections, inflammation, and blood disorders. Doctors often use a CBC to assess overall health, monitor medical conditions, or evaluate symptoms like fatigue, weakness, or abnormal bleeding. Please contact our team if you’re looking for lab tests near you.

Why are some lab test kits collected at home (e.g., stool kits and saliva kits)?

While phlebotomists furnish our patients with materials and collection instructions for stool kits, the samples cannot be collected in the office due to the risk of exposure for patients and employees. Similarly, other kits, such as saliva test kits or 24-hour urine tests, must also be completed at home because the collection process spans an extended period. Although these are completed at home, we provide printed instructions with each kit and verbally review them in the office before you depart.
