Approach to Care

Diabetes took my grandmother's limbs then life. Her death motivated me to get into nursing. As I went through my 14 years as a nurse, I realized I was caring for patients with preventable diseases. I wanted to help prevent preventable diseases. So, I went back to school where I graduated with my FNP degree.

I love educating patients on how to care for themselves, prevent diseases, or slow disease progression. It is important to me that patients understand their health so they can appropriately advocate for themselves, friends, and family. I believe it is important for patients to understand their treatment plans. A better understanding of why medications are prescribed leads to better adherence. Building relationships with my patients builds trust, respect, and a positive connection. This leads to better outcomes.

To prioritize my health, I exercise and I eat healthy, but do not deprive myself when I crave a sweet treat every now and then. I get enough sleep to feel refreshed. I take a nap when needed, and believe naps are underrated. I recognize when my self-care is slipping and will correct it because self-care is an important aspect of daily living. It is important to keep myself happy and healthy so I can be at my best for my patients.
